SRINAGAR
Srinagar, arguably a city that embodies romance and beauty is the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir; perfectly placed in the center of the Kashmir Valley. Srinagar literally meaning 'the city of wealth & abundance' in Sanskrit, was founded around 150 AD by King Pravarasen II. Situated on the banks of the river Jhelum, Srinagar is surrounded by beautiful lakes like Dal, Nagin and Anchar, whose glittering waters reflecting the rays of the sun is a sight to behold.
Srinagar attracts tourists throughout the year to enjoy its snow clad mountains, colors of fall & greenery of the summers. Dal Lake, the largest lake, spread across 26 sq.km is home to the maximum number of houseboats & Shikara's.

Best Season / Best time to visit Srinagar
Srinagar has only two climates, pleasant summers and a very chilly,
freezing winters. Rainfalls are very scanty here. The best time to visit
Srinagar is from April to October.
Winter (October to March) accounts for winters with minimum
consistently well below 0°C and maximum only about 15°C. Winters are
associated with heavy snowfalls. It may not be good period to book tour packages for Srinagar. During winter months the lakes are all frozen and snowfall can cause road blockages.
Summer (April to September) are ideal for sightseeing and is the
peak tourist season with a maximum temperature of 30°C and a minimum
well below 14°C.
